New Social Activities for dogs and their people! Introducing “Yappy Hour!”

We now host “Yappy Hour” every Saturday from 4:15pm-5:45pm in our daycare space. All breeds are welcome to the party! It is however essential that your dog be socially appropriate in the group setting. This means no aggressive dogs or dogs displaying inappropriate behaviors such as excessive barking, toy possessiveness, humping, or play that is too dangerous for all of the attendees will be allowed. The introductory fee will remain $3.00 per dog and we will have staff members on site to assist with the play activities.  We ask that you sign in at the front desk and plan on having your pass stamped by the Yappy Hour Host(ess) or show your receipt.  We will continue to honor the fun run cards until July 31, 2008.  August 1st, we will offer a new pass and the admission will increase to $4 per pup...humans free!

For the people attending we offer refreshments, training tips and even games and prizes! This is fun for your dog and YOU!

We are no longer offering breed specific fun runs, but we do offer several classes for specific breeds and sizes. Please review our class listings for more information on our new Saturday classes!

Yappy Hour Rules

  • Owners must clean up your own dog messes.

  • No smoking anywhere on our campus, please.

  • No food allowed in play spaces.

  • Please supervise children around the dogs.

  • Any dog not behaving appropriately will be asked to leave. Our staff will be present to assist in educating you on more advanced dog communication skills.  Please respect their efforts to maintain a safe environment for everyone.

  • No aggressive dogs, please!

  • Please manage your dog's excessive barking.  Excessive barking may result in limiting the playspace for everyone and/or asking your dog to leave.  We want to respect our neighbors and expect you to understand noise is always a concern.

  • Owners must also, stay with their dog at Yappy Hour and monitor their dog's behavior.

Yappy Hour attendees must adhere to the rules or will be asked to leave without refund.  It is important that you understand that our staff are canine professionals and have a good grasp on dog communication skills and behaviors.  They may point out a behavior and ask you to manage it.  Failure to respectfully comply with our staff's requests will result in asking you to leave Yappy Hour.  In addition, there is no smoking on Great Dog's campus, a no aggression policy, and owners must pick up after their dog(s).  To be neighborly, dogs that are noisy will be asked to leave.  Owners must also remain on the play floor during the Yappy Hour event and monitor their dog's behavior.

Groups of 6 or more dogs (ie meetup.com groups) must make arrangements a minimum of one week in advance and are held to the same standards as our Yappy Hour.  Please make arrangements M-F from 10am -4pm by emailing Julie.

No outside vendors or merchandising is permitted at Great Dog's fun runs, Yappy Hour or on our campus.  This includes breed specific collars, coats, all treats, jewelry, etc.  Those individuals or groups not adhering to this policy will be asked to leave without refunds.

Puppy Play Times!

Great Dog  offers a regular "Puppy Playtime" sessions each Saturday from 3-4pm.  Puppy Playtime is for puppies ages 9 weeks to 5 months.  These sessions are not designed to replace the four-week Puppy Steps class, but to enhance your puppy’s exposure to alternative & new experiences. These sessions serve as socialization opportunities to play and learn.  Great Dog is developing a core group of volunteer "Puppy Socialites" that will assist in introducing your puppy to different people, smells and textures.  This program is modeled after Dr. Ian Dunbar's tips on socializing puppies.  Instructors will be on hand, provided there are 3 or more puppies to provide structure, games and will be on hand to answer your additional question about life with your puppy!  These sessions serve as excellent preparation for Puppy Steps or Basic Obedience. To join us for the Puppy Play Times, please swing by our front counter (if you need to pay with a credit card) or bring cash/check to our Main Training Space (Daycare), check in at in the Shoppe.

Cost:  $3 per puppy

*When you enroll in one of our Puppy Steps obedience classes you will receive one coupon to attend one Puppy Playtime sessions of your choice at no cost.
