Roxanne
is available for adoption through the Seattle Animal
Shelter. You may meet her at Great Dog during the
week.
Roxanne has a lot of nick names. She is Sunshine, Sunny,
Joy. And they are all fitting. Roxanne started life out in
a lovely home in Spokane. She developed cataracts and by
the age of two her vision was limited. She got out of the
yard and was hit by a car…crushing her pelvis and rendering
Roxanne paralyzed from the hips down. Unable to keep her, a
well intentioned veterinarian took her in and rehabilitated
her. Roxanne gained use in the rear left leg but was left
with triple nerve damage that caused her to drag her right
one around. She also had no control over her bladder and
when she sleeps or gets excited, sometimes she dropped a
poop or two. Roxanne was very happy to live with the vet
for a few years. Suddenly, her guardian angel died of
cancer and Roxanne was taken to Seattle by a friend.
Seattle Animal Shelter was contacted and Roxanne was
evaluated for a whole new life. Roxanne had her leg
amputated and the fine folks at Carkeek Veterinary Hospital
are treating her with acupuncture and Chinese herbs to help
her potty problems. While Roxanne’s vision is limited, she
has managed to translate what she can see very well and it
poses not major threats to her quality of life. With
diapers (but the herbs are working great!)regular potty
opportunities, and a caring heart, Roxanne could easily fit
into a home looking for a special kind of girl.
Roxanne is only about 5-6 years old and has the most
charming, loving personality. Life has really thrown this
dog the leftovers but she has managed to make a feast out of
the worst of it. When you look into Roxanne’s cloudy eyes,
you can just hear her soul sing. She is joy wrapped up in a
dog body. She is an inspiration on how to overcome the
worst battles with grace and goodness.
Because of Roxanne’s wonderful temperament we believe that
she would be a fabulous therapy dog. She is a shining
example of how a canine’s positive attitude paired with the
love of a person who values a dog like Roxanne can bring the
message of hope to a wide variety of situations. Our
instructors in our therapy animal preparation class have met
and worked with Roxanne already. If you have ever dreamed of
bringing joy and comfort to others via your relationship
with a dog, Roxanne might be the dog to help you fulfill
that dream! The training class is six weeks long , meeting
once a week for one hour. Great Dog is willing to offer a
50% scholarship off the course fee to the person who adopts
Roxanne.
We are seeking a home for Roxanne that might be able to
overlook her physical challenges and see the song that is in
this girl’s heart, waiting to share it with you and the
world. |
